With the completion of the fall season, the RHHS boys cross country team has drawn in lots of attention. Ending the dual-meet season with an undefeated record of 14-0, the team has been unstoppable this year, competing against teams such as Newington, Wethersfield, and Bloomfield.

At the state championships, two athletes from the boys team earned the All-State title, placing in the top seven. Brayden Bayek placed 5th and Bryan Martinez placed 7th in the 5000-meter race. They also qualified for the Class M State Open Championships and competed in the event on November 5th. At the state open championships, Bayek placed 36th, Martinez placed 59th, and Corcoran placed 95th.

Looking back on the successful season, Coach Bobrow reflects on how the outcome of this season came to be. “I truly think that all the credit goes to the guys because I could say all the right things but at the end of the day, they really took ownership of their training and their level of focus. That eventually translated into competition.”

Not only did the teammates push themselves to perform their best, but Bobrow also says that they pushed each other to be the best athlete they could be. “It was a great combination of training hard, great leadership, and all being focused on the same goal way back in June.”

Despite all the complications and challenges that COVID-19 posed to the athletes, Bobrow says, “Taking the training and thinking about the long term season provided direction throughout the season, and keeping that in mind and striving to perform the best at the championship meets kept everyone focused and they all had their eyes set on one goal.”
