The class of 2023 is planning to raise money for their class through a dodgeball tournament planned for Mar. 10.
“We anticipate twenty teams by Friday,” said Mrs. DeLucia. So far, the dodgeball tournament has 16 teams of six people with various unique names and interesting costume prospects.
One of the many participants is Anna Leal, a junior. “I am a little scared to be honest. But I am going to win so I am excited about that,” she said shrugging. “Our team name is Fireball, but I can’t tell you what our costumes are. It’s a super secret.
“I am really good at dodging. I can’t throw, but I can dodge and the name is dodgeball, not throw…ball,” she exclaimed. However, Leal had one concern: “There are only a few all girls teams,” she said. Leal urged more girls to make teams and join.
Seniors seem to be much more excited about the tournament in which everyone believes they’re going to win.
Ben Kiesel, a senior participating in the tournament, believes his team will secure the victory. “I think we have a strong foundation. We have some former baseball players like myself. I think we’ve got some good arms,” he said. “My team name is Bing Chilling,” Kiesel said and explained that the word means Ice Cream in Chinese, popularized by John Cena.
“I haven’t been more excited in my life. I am thrilled and I can’t wait,” said Leonardo Livio Maxwell Kerz as Kiesel nodded in agreement.
Kerz’s team name is “Matrix.” He explained, “Neo in the Matrix dodges bullets and he wears really cool clothes and glasses and does backflips and cartwheels. That’s like us, but we will be dodging balls.”
“I have a very very strong inclination that we will win both the dodgeball tournament and the best outfit–-100% confidence by the way,” Kerz added.
“I completely disagree with their words about winning the tournament. Best outfit, I can see. I think he is being a little bit cocky and I think me and my team are going to show him what’s up,” Kiesel said in response.
To those on the fence about participating, Mrs. DeLucia, Class of 2023 advisor said, “We are having a 50/50 raffle fundraiser. The class with the most attendees will get the money for their class.”
Kerz urged, “I want some support out there when I am slinging balls.”
