If you are passionate about creating a safer, cleaner environment here at Rocky Hill and even all over the world, join the Environmental Club! The Environmental Club currently tries to meet once a week and was founded by Siya Patel, a senior.
“I noticed that people weren’t caring about the environment and if they did care, they didn’t know how to help,” says Patel. Patel wanted to create opportunities for people to help take care of the environment and raise awareness. Although she only started the Environmental Club last year, they have already done so much. Last spring, the club held a clothing drive, which collected 650 pounds of clothing, and was donated to a local recycling center.
The club also focuses on making eco-friendly crafts, holding fundraisers, and educating others about environmental issues. In March, they raised awareness towards saving the oceans by putting up a display at school, watched a documentary about coral reefs, and made informational posts on their Instagram. Recently, the club launched a website, which will feature articles about environmental issues, tips, and ongoing and upcoming projects.
In the near future, the club hopes to organize more fun activities such as a beach cleanup. You can follow the Environmental Club on Instagram @rhhs.environmental and visit their website at rhhs.environmental.org. For those interested in joining the club, the classroom code is 3c2xpdc.
