Brendon Stevens, junior at RHHS, could not live without music. Stevens has participated in every musical opportunity RHHS has to offer, including chorus, drama club, symphonic and marching band and continues to welcome every opportunity with open arms.
When asked if he had a favorite of all his experiences, Stevens said, “I love all of them so much. If you took one away from me, I wouldn’t be complete,” and he is still not done conquering the unknown.
“I love discovering stuff. There is so much stuff out there. There are so many ways you can use music to convey your ideas and emotions”, he said, his eyes lighting up. “That’s what I love about it.”
Right now, Stevens plays the trumpet but has been experimenting with other instruments and mediums, like audio softwares. “I sing the melody like: doo-doo-doo; then I try to put it on a software…It’s getting there.”
Stevens stated that he owes his success and passion to his parents and the friends and those around him. His father who is in a band and his mother, a music teacher at Moser, allowed him access to music from a very young age. “Every now and then I would start singing and playing the piano, albeit really badly. I knew I really wanted to do something with this.”
Many years have passed since Stevens was jamming out on the piano, but his enthusiasm has not died, especially not for those around him. “I have met a lot of people who share my excitement. Shout out to Parth Gohil and Nathaniel Place. Every now and then we get together and jam out.”
“I definitely want to integrate music into my career,” and while he will always continue to explore the different areas of music, Stevens’s goal for the next year, along with refining his craft, is to lead the Music Honors Society at RHHS.
Stevens welcomes every musical opportunity with open arms, and encourages others to do so as well: “15 years from now, you’ll never be like ‘I wish I never took a band. Definitely do it. Best decision of my life.”
Stevens favorite song is “Hurt,” by his favorite band, Nine Inch Nails. “It is not definitely not school appropriate, but it’s great,” says Stevens. (Picture Source: Cover Me Songs)
