The festivities started with Down Time: 65 students dispersed into groups and most were flown 185 feet into the air, dropped with speeds up to 45 mph.. The rest of Physics Day 2022 was filled with fun as the students embarked on other rides at Lake Compounce.
The students had an enjoyable first hand experience of Newton’s Laws and other physics concepts learned throughout the year in physics teacher Michael Fagan’s class.
“Physics day was the best day of my life, and it only cost $20,” said senior Maria Corcoran, echoing Fagan.
After a two-year halt on field trips, Physics Day on May 26 was a breath of fresh air for current and former physics students.
Some took it as an opportunity to experience a thrill, but others tried rides they would not otherwise, thanks to a friendly dose of peer pressure.
Junior Parth Gohil humorously explained how he held hands with his friend Jacob Aleksandrowicz, senior, on Phobia. On another ride, Gohil recollects, he was “finessed” on Zoomerang by senior Marvin Odobashi.
Junior Swapnil Roy took the opportunity and produced a 15-minute video where he outlined physics concepts and recorded the fun, encapsulating the essence of the exciting trip.
“My Physics Day experience was absolutely amazing. I loved the vibe,” said Roy, urging everyone to take physics next year. “Mr. Fagan is an amazing teacher.”
English teacher Jillian Barry chaperoned this trip and attended back in 2009 when she was a physics student. “I remember the weather was not as good; [this time] we had perfect weather,” said Barry. “It was a good day for physics.”
Barry recounted going on a ride that has since been closed with a friend and also Latin teacher Matthew Bennet. “I screamed the entire time.”
Once again, good work Fagan!
