Many RHHS freshmen feel that the transition from middle school was a challenge for many reasons. Yet, the different atmosphere of the high school has also garnered positive opinions, resulting in mixed feelings about the transition.

“Everything was good, except for the fact that we had to write essays on the third day. I like the two-day [schedule] better. You get more time to do your homework,” said freshman Nayva Agarwal.

Incoming students considered the shift from a block schedule to a nine-period-day difficult to adapt to.

Students also said that they like how many privileges they get compared to middle school. For instance, Freshman Akhila Mundrathi said “I like the freedom that we get, like roaming the halls by ourselves, and being independent.”

But the freshmen feel that even though there is a lot more freedom, it comes with a lot more work.

“Yeah, we get more freedom, but there is definitely more responsibility and work on your shoulders,” said Ipek Ozuolmez.

Bayan Abed said “Here, you get so much freedom, you get to make your own decisions, you can be responsible for what you want to do, but that also comes with consequences.”

Overall, freshmen said they are at ease with the transition and are slowly but surely adjusting to their new environment at the high school.

While they agreed that the adjustment was demanding and quite strenuous, they understood that whatever difficulty they were facing would shape them into better people for the future.
