Zito reports on starter’s pistol incident
Superintendent Mark Zito addressed a starter’s pistol discharged on March 21 by a student-athlete in a March 22 email to RHHS Parents and Guardians. In the email, Zito reported Rocky Hill Police Department investigation found that a student located the starter’s pistol while unloading equipment from a locked athletic storage shed at the beginning of practice with a handful of other students. The student removed the starter’s pistol from its case and fired at the ground. Zito said appropriate administrative actions will be taken to respond to the situation. Nobody was injured.
NAHS postpones Holi event
The National Art Honor Society Holi event is now on Saturday, May 13. The event celebrates the Indian festival Holi. According to Encyclopaedia Britannica, Holi traditions involve throwing colors in celebration. This is the second annual Holi event hosted by NAHS. The original date was May 6.
Class of 2025 cancels First Annual Talent Show
The Talent Show, originally planned for March 23, was cancelled since not enough acts signed up. The event was a fundraiser for the Class of 2025.
RHHS Math Team places 2nd in Capital Area Math League
The Math Team secured 2nd place in a six month competition that ended on March 8. This is the Math Team’s second consecutive year placing 2nd place. Six students–Muktha Ramesh, Riddhi Sharma, Devesh Karthik, Parth Gohil, Vedant Gosavi and Partick Cierpisz–will go on to compete in the statewide competition on April 4. The competition will be virtual.
RHHS Drama Club presents ‘Footloose’
Drama Club will be presenting “Footloose” on March 31 and April 1 at 7 p.m. The cast has been practicing twice a week since late November. The play is about a high school kid who loves dancing who moves to a town where dancing is banned. Next week is tech week, and tickets can be bought by scanning the QR code on the flyers or by visiting GOFAN.CO and searching Rocky Hill Public Schools.
RHHS Science Team makes top 16th and places 5th in Wildcard Round
The RHHS Science Team competed at the University of Connecticut for the New England Science Bowl on Sunday, March 5. RHHS was allowed to bring two teams of five; this year, the team included Parth Gohil, Hrideyesh Tyagi, Devesh Karthik, Swapnil Roy, Muktha Ramesh, Anvi Bose, Kristian Odobashi, Vedant Gosavi, Anesh Gobi, and Suma Dendi. One team placed 15th overall after they made Top 16 after the initial “Round Robin” competition. The other team went to the Wild Card round after the “Round Robin” and placed 5th.
